Here are a few of my holiday pictures from my trip up north to the tropics in August/September 2002.

There are 2 main locations Cape Hillsborough 40km North of Mackay (look for Seaforth on map) and Port Douglas.

Cape Hillsborough in a National Park and is famous for the kangaroos swimming in the sea. There is a nature reserve and very nice camp site on the edge of the beach under the coconut palms (ouch!). The roo's will come up to you for food and just love a fresh coconut opened for them.

Port Douglas is on the edge of the Daintree rain forest in the north 60km North of  Cairns. The whole place has developed for the tourist and is a staging place for Reef trips.

Captain Cooks rock at Cape Hillsborough.

The camp site at Cape Hillsborough. My tent and Toyota Echo. The total distance traveled from Melbourne and back was 7227 Km. I traveled 1200km on one day but mostly 850Km per day on way up. I had to start at day break and stop at dusk so as to avoid the Kangaroos on the road!! At one spot near Lightning Ridge there was a dead roo every 5 meters at the side of the road.

Got any tucker mate?

Joey's tail just visible from mums pouch.

The beach my tent is just in the trees.

The same beach from the top of the cliffs. Captain Cooks rock is in the middle between the 2 beaches.

Looking the other way, the causeway to the small island and in the distance is Brampton Island a tourist resort.

Cape Hillsborough looking south west towards Mackay.

Some sugar cane on way to Seaforth from Cape Hillsborough.

Same spot.

You guess clue it laughs at dawn and dusk.

Roo on beach just before sun up.

Get that camera away from me!

Some coral at low tide.
